The Story of the King James Bible

Alexander Scourby |

The Bible

(History)

I find it quite fascinating how many centuries the Bible has been in existence and survived  it's journey; how God has preserved his Word through time.

28 Moses was there with the Lord, forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water.  And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant -- the Ten Commandments.                                                 (Exodus 34:28)

13 He declared to you his covenant, The Ten Commandements, which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets.
                                                 (Deut 4:13)

I.
Thou shall have no other
God before me

II.
You shall not make other Idols

III.
You shall not misuse
the name of the Lord your God

IV.
Observe the Sabbath Day by
keeping it holy

V.
Honor your Father
and your Mother

VI.
You shall not Murder

VII.
You shall not
commit adultery

VIII.
You shall not steal

IX.
You shall not give false testimony against
your neighbor

X.
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife

                                                                                      (Deut 5:7-21)
Initially, the Bible was The Ten Commandments, created by Father God, himself, delivered to Moses in 1,400 BC. - 1,500 on  stone tablets, at the top of Mount Sinai,  as a guideline for moral standards to the Jewish people, then later to the Gentiles (you and me).

The Bible is comprised of the Old Testament (39 books with scripture) completed approximately 500 BC,  and the New Testament (27 books with scriptures) completed by the First Century BC.

The Old Testament was written in ancient Hebrew.  These writings were passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years on scrolls made from animal skins, usually sheep, but sometimes deer or cow.  The first five books of the Bible are called the Torah.

The New Testament was preserved on papyrus, a thin paper-like material made from crushed and flattened stalks of a reed-like plant.

The word Bible comes from the same Greek root word as "papyrus".  The "papyrus" sheets were bound or tied together in a configuration of a modern book rather than an elongated scroll.

The timeline for the English Bible History can be reviewed on the web, which is quite extensive and thought provoking.

Prayer

 Recognize the Presence of   God

Be alone.
Fellowship daily with God.

Honor Him by coming in quietness and wait.
Spend time with Him.
Do not rush in and out with a gimme gimme attitude--that's using Him.
Be free from distraction, unplug the phone, tell your children not to disturb you.
Give Him your time--alone.
Don't pray when it's too late or you are too tired.
Is one hour per day enough?  No!  One hour is for babies!

Little prayer, little power; much prayer, much power.

You must begin with Worship

...worship the Father in Spirit and Truth.  God is a Spirit.                                        (John 4: 21-24)

Enter His gates with Thanksgiving and into his Courts with Praise.                   (Psalm 100:4)

Bless the Lord, Oh my soul, and all that is within me, Bless His holy name.          (Psalm 103:1)

Buy cd's with praise and worship music and start singing to the Lord.

Know God's Will

Read the Bible.  Know it, Don't pass up your blessings that God wants and has been ordained for you.

...ask anything according to His "will."
                                                  (John 45:13)

Prayers will be answered supernaturally.

Obedience is key to your relationship with God.

Saul was living in disobedience.
                                                  (1 Sam 128: 5-16)

Regarding iniquity in my heart--God will not hear me (sin).
                                                  (Psalm 66:18)

God will only reveal his will if  you are in his presence, through prayer.

Developing Daily Prayer

Without daily communion and prayer, your life will begin to deteriorate.

Also, your unconfessed sin will hinder your prayers:

Daniel prayed daily.  He opened his window and prayed toward Jerusalem.

...Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
                                                  (Daniel 6: 10)

Evening, morning, & noon, I cry out in distress, and He hears my voice.
                                                  (Psalm 55:17)

Surely, the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear;
But your iniquities (sins) have separated you from your God.
                                                  (Isaiah 59: 1-2)

The Glory of God

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
                                                                                  (Genesis 1:1)

24  God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.
                                                                                  (John 4:24)

God
(Ancient of Days)

{Daniel's Vision Concerning God}

9  "As I looked, "thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
       His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of his head was white like wool.
His throne was flaming with fire,
and its wheels were all ablaze.
10 A river of fire was flowing, coming out from
     before him.

       Thousands upon thousands attended him;
ten thousand times ten thousand stood before
       him.

The court was seated, and the books were
       opened.

...

13 "In my vision at night I looked, and there
before me was one like a son of man, coming

with the clouds of heaven.
He approached the Ancient of Days and was
      led  into his presence.

14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign
power; all peoples, nations and men of every
language worshiped him. His dominion is an
everlasting dominion that will not pass away,
and his kingdom is one that will never be
    destroyed.

...
22 until the Ancient of Days came and
pronounced judgment in favor of the saints of
the Most High, and the time came when they
     possessed the kingdom.

...
27 Then the sovereignty, power and greatness of
the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be
handed over to the saints, the people of the
Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting
kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey
     him."

                                                      (Daniel 7:9-27)

When I act, who can reverse it?"
